Champions League Final: Atlético Madrid vs Real Madrid

While football fans have been already excited about the European championship that is just around the corner, there is the last big game of this season to enjoy. On Saturday, the long-awaited and hotly-anticipated Champions League final will be played, featuring a purely Spanish clash between Atlético and Real Madrid. Back in 2014 when these two sides met in the Champions League final for the last time, Real claimed the trophy after a 4:1 extra time win. However, Atlético have been excellent this year and they are heading into the decisive match in high spirits. Kicking off at 8:45 PM (CET), this year´s Champions League final Atlético vs. Real will be played at the iconic San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy.

Atlético Madrid

Atlético have enjoyed another great season. In La Liga, Simeone´ s team finished in the third spot, just 3 points behind the winners Barcelona and 2 points behind Real. However, the biggest achievement of the season might still come as the Atléti will fight for their very first European Cup in the Champions League final against Real. Since these Madrid rivals met in the final 2 years ago, Atlético have grown a great deal, transforming themselves into a highly competitive and experienced side, which makes their chances of winning the final this time around somewhat better. Atlético´s Champions League campaign has been really impressive this season. After winning their group, Colchoneros saw off PSV Eindhoven in the round of 16, knocked out the reigning champions Barcelona in the quarter final and beat another European giant Bayern Munich in the semi final. Encouraged by these stunning results, Atlético are confident ahead of the final, knowing they have very positive record against Real. Out of the last 10 head-to-head games between these two sides, Real won just one.

Real Madrid

Real were through several minor drop-offs in their forms this year but in the final part of the season, they got into a formidable shape. In La Liga, Madrid produced a remarkable finish marked by 13 consecutive wins, which let them compete for the title until the very last round. Nevertheless, Barcelona managed to defend their last year´s triumph, leaving Real in the runners-up spot. But Madrid still have a good opportunity to achieve a major success this season. If they beat Atlético in the Champions League final, they will secure their 11th trophy. Similarly to their rivals Atlético, Real have also dispatched several top-notch sides including AS Roma, Wolfsburg and Manchester City during their admirable Champions League run. Unfortunately for Los Blancos, it will not be just the strong and in-form opponent they will have to deal with in the final. Real will also have to cope with some considerable absences with Varane and Arbeola out due to injury and Rodrígez and Vázques being a doubt.
